Contents & Formulation
Each capsule contains:
Doxycycline (as hyclate) 100 mg
Indications and Usage
Used in a large number of infections caused by susceptible organisms such as chlamydia, rickettsia, brucella
and the spirochaete, Borrelia burgdorferi. It is also used in the respiratory and genital mycoplasmal infections,
in acne, in destructive periodontal disease and for leptospirosis in penicillin hypersensitivity.
Dosage & Administration
Adult: Initially, 100 mg twice daily.
Maintenance: 100 mg daily.
Gonococcal and non-gonococcal infections: 100 mg twice daily for 7 days, or as prescribed by the physician.
Usual dose is 200 mg on the first day (as a single dose or in divided doses) followed by 100 mg daily.
Sensitive gonococcal infections: 100 mg twice daily for 7 days.
Syphilis: 200 mg to 300 mg daily in divided doses for at least 15 or 10 days, respectively.
Acne: 50 mg daily
Relapsing fever and louse borne typhus: 100 mg or 200 mg may be given as single dose.
Doxycycline capsules should be given with plenty fluid, with the patient in an upright position and well before retiring to bed. It may be given with food or milk if gastric irritation occurs.
